European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR) convened Eular26 — European Congress of Rheumatology — in London between 3-6 June 2026. The convention issued updated recommendations for treatment of polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR), giant cell arteritis (GCA), and Takayasu’s Arteritis (TAK). The fresh recommendations underline a ‘treat-to-target’ approach for managing TAK. Patients with suspected TAK are to be assessed by a specialist, with glucocorticoid therapy beginning only after a positive diagnosis is confirmed. It has been recommended that all patients with active TAK should receive non-biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) along with glucocorticoids to enhance disease control and reduce steroid dependence. Biologics Tocilizumab or TNF inhibitors have been suggested for patients with relapsing or refractory disease despite continuing DMARD therapy.
