A research paper published in 2021 highlighted the importance of increasing physical activity and following a structured exercise program for patients with Takayasu’s Arteritis. The study involved both cardiologists and rheumatologists treating patients with TAK, and the findings showed that increasing patients’ activity levels not only improved mobility but also reduced inflammation and the risk of cardiovascular complications. The authors recommended that doctors prescribe an exercise program tailored to each patient’s medication regimen and previous level of physical conditioning. Overall, the evidence strongly supported encouraging patients with TAK to undertake a combination of cardiovascular exercise and a few weekly sessions of strength training—with appropriate guidance and initial supervision—to achieve long-term health benefits.
