Inklings
I rarely know where a thought is headed until the words start walking.
I admire writers who have the patience and mental bandwidth to plan out every little detail before they start a project. I revere the ones who have their inspiration and expression so much in sync that their thoughts flow into renderings seemingly without the effort of construction. I work with an idea like an ingredient you pick off a shelf without giving an iota of thought to what you plan to do with it. Very few of them ‘simmer’ into something palatable. Most get disposed of half-baked or spoilt with overthinking and procrastination.
After 30+ years of juggling words to make a living, I have lost a lot of conviction for merging passion with profession. Constantly visualising and writing in different formats to earn your bread often leaves you with no appetite for personal creative satisfaction. It seems no different from the regular beat. Add to it the ache of creating and disowning countless stories and scenarios thanks to all the non-disclosure agreements you signed. I am not indulging in self-pity or venting. This is me proffering myself an alibi for having numerous incomplete manuscripts and abandoned blogs, and yet starting a new one. This is also my excuse if I have not posted anything lately.
I hope you find something here that makes you smile. I hope that is reason enough for you to come visit again. Be well!
