A four-year study conducted from February 2017 till September 2021 reported encouraging results for combination therapy with mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) and methotrexate (MTX) in the treatment of active Takayasu’s Arteritis (TAK). In a randomized trial with 111 patients, the MMF–MTX combination achieved considerably higher response rates at 28-week and 52-week milestones, compared with conventional regimen of medication. The MMF-MTX combination was generally well tolerated, with few serious adverse events. The study suggested that the two widely available disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) may offer an effective steroid-sparing treatment option for patients with active TAK.
